Gateway Arch Tram Systems Modernization

Gateway Arch National Park, St. Louis, MO

Replaced 1960s Ward Leonard motor-generator sets with modern ABB VFDs and redundant PLCs. Phased six-month changeover kept one tram running at all times. Recognized with the 2018 Notable Engineering Achievement Award.

Boeing Philadelphia Wind Tunnel Modernization

Ridley Park, PA

Replaced a 16,000 HP wound-rotor motor with an 18,700 HP, 6,600 V ABB ACS-5000 MV VFD. Engineered 36-pulse phase-shifting transformers, cooling towers, MV switchgear, and a precision 120,000 lb drive rigging operation. 2009 Engineering Achievement Award.

VA Medical Center 6 MW N+1 Emergency Power

Philadelphia, PA

Six-megawatt N+1 emergency power system for a Joint Commission–accredited VA hospital: three 2 MW, 13.2 kV diesel generators, 60,000-gallon fuel tanks, 51 ATSs, and redundant PLC controls. Facility was never dark >1 hour during phased construction. 2015 Notable Award.

Indoor Skydiving Wind Tunnel — Power & Drive Train

Fort Worth, TX

Engineering, design, PLC programming, and commissioning for an indoor skydiving wind tunnel. A novel horizontal motor and gearbox configuration (patents US 10,765,958 B2 and US 11,731,057 B2) replaced the traditional nacelle design. 2019 Notable Engineering Achievement Award.
